What to have ready when we arrive - and how to make the day run smoothly. Moving day will be busy. The more you've sorted in advance, the smoother it goes. Here's what helps us - and you.
Everything should be boxed and ready to go. We can pack for you, but if it's not part of the plan, having half-packed rooms slows everything down.
Hallways, stairs, doorways. The easier it is to move through your home, the faster we can work.
Beds, flat-pack furniture, anything that needs to come apart. If you'd rather we do it, let us know in advance so we can allow time.
Washing machines, dishwashers, cookers. They should be disconnected and ready to move. Fridges and freezers need to be defrosted.
If we need permits, bay suspensions, or specific access arrangements, have them in place. Let us know in advance if parking is complicated - we can plan around it.
We'll have questions. Where do you want this? Is this going? Which room does this box belong in? Being available speeds things up.
Doors will be open, people will be carrying heavy things, there'll be trip hazards. Best if kids and pets are out of the way - visiting grandparents, in a closed room, or ideally somewhere else entirely.
Essentials you'll need immediately: phone charger, toiletries, change of clothes, medication, important documents, snacks, and whatever you need to make a cup of tea when you arrive.
Jewellery, cash, passports, laptops, anything irreplaceable. Don't pack them in the van - keep them in your own car or on your person.
Or arrange access so we can get in. Waiting outside with a loaded van isn't ideal for anyone.
Parking, access, stairs, lifts. If there are any surprises at the new place, let us know before we arrive with a van full of your belongings.
We'll ask where you want furniture placed and which rooms boxes belong in. If you've labelled boxes with destination rooms, that helps enormously.
